YachtCom offers the opportunity for anyone wishing to obtain the
GMDSS Long Range Certificate to study on-line using YachtCom's e-learning
package and then finalize their study and take the LRC exam by attending
YachtCom's training studio for 2 days.
Two days at YachtCom is
required, as students need to get practical experience of using the equipment
and in preparation for the exam which includes a group radio telephone
exercise. Day 2 is devoted to the examination, which is overseen by an external
examiner and takes between 4 to 5 hours depending on the number of candidates
sitting the exam. MCA rules do not allow for remote examination.
The
YachtCom on-line e-learning package has been developed to cover all aspects of
the GMDSS Long Range Certificate. The on-line training is broken down into easy
to follow lessons which include multiple choice questions covering each
subject.

Broadband Internet access
is required to access the on-line training and it is recommended that 15 to 20
hours of studying before attending the course at YachtCom.
Students
progress is monitored at YachtCom, so we know how much time each student spends
on the e-learning program and we can monitor their progress.
