This course is targeted toward the bluewater and offshore yachtsman that wish to learn how to operate an Icom M801 or M710 SSB radio with attend the full Long Range Certificate courseng satellite phones will be covered in the full day course.

General SSB knowledge and MF/HF propagation
Capabilities and limitations of SSB communications
MF/HF radio propagation
Use of SSB MF/HF equipment in practice.
Types of information you can receive using SSB equipment
Marine SSB operation, frequencies and services

We also give technical advice on SSB installation and show you how to get the best out of your equipment. YachtCom can also provide the leads to go between your SSB radio and computer along with the software you require.

What to bring
Students may wish to bring along manuals for their own equipment or if planning to install SSB email or weatherfax software, their PC.

Marine Radio
Operator's Licence

A marine radio operator's licence is an international legal requirement.
Yachtsmen operating a VHF only radio require a Short Range Certificate. If operating an SSB, VHF and Inmarsat from a yacht then a Long Range Certificate is required. Visit www.yachtcom.info for more information about marine radio and yacht communications.
