Good Evening and welcome to YachtCom

RYA Radar 1-day course with real Raymrine C120 display unit

Marine Radio Operator's Certificate

The marine radio operator onboard any craft is required to hold an marine radio operator's certificate.

The two certificates that can be obtained for leisure craft are either the Short Range Certificate which is limited to VHF only operation or the Long Range Certificate which allows operation of all marine radio equipment.

Therefore the Long Range Certificate is a must for anyone planning to spend time at sea and is issued by AMERC on behalf of the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency.

RYA Radar Operator's Certificate

Radar is a very powerful tool that gives the ability to see targets in the dark or in poor visibility, targets that may not be seen with the human eye.

International regulations state that if you have radar on board your yacht, you must know how to use it.

On the YachtCom RYA Radar course you will gain the experience of getting the best performance out of a small ship's Radar system using our real Raymarine C120 navigation display.

Customer feedback

Martin Quinn said: "Before I started I did resent the idea of spending so much time, money and effort getting this licence. However I have to admit that I have learnt a huge amount of really useful stuff and feel so much more confident about using all this equipment which includes not just SSB but also VHF (and I now realise that I was not really competent at that despite having the bit of paper that says I was!), SARTS, EPIRBS, Inmarsat, Navtex and hand helds. Bob has all the necessary kit and the course was a relaxed atmosphere but hard work. We did the 2 day option and I certainly spent a lot more than 10 hours study before hand but it was definitely worthwhile doing and I would recommend both the course and the venue."
